Some piccies from our trip to Alpe d'Huez (France).

We stayed at Le Lac Blanc II chalet which is right at the top of the village, next to the Téléphérique des Grandes Rousses gondola (the DMC), it couldn't have been in a better position. The chalet was really nice, we were very well looked after by the two staff (Sarah & Ollie) & the other guests were all very nice. Because the wine flowed freely with the evening meal we only ventured out on two evenings; the obligatory staff night off & the last night when we we all went to a quiz, so we saved a load of money by not going out to the local bars. We must have been more fun than our sister chalet, Le Lac Blanc I, because on Xmas evening not only did our staff stay late with us, but their staff joined us & the rep did too!!

The actual ski area is a pretty big spread out affair, unfortunately there isn't a tree in sight, so when the weather isn't too good there's no where to retreat to. Day 1 & 2 were overcast & misty, 3 & 4 were a white out due to mist & snow, 5 & 6 were sunny. It was very windy most of the time too, so the top lift was usually closed.

Alpe d'Huez (1860m) forms part of the Grandes Rousses ski area; combining the resorts of Alpe d'Huez, Auris-en-Oisans, Huez-en-Oisans, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany & Villard Reculas. It has 249kms of piste in total. From its highest point, Pic Blanc (3330m), you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama over the Ecrins National Park, La Grave, La Meije, Les Deux Alpes & Mont Blanc itself, before skiing the 2230m of vertical drop down to L'Enversin d'Oz at 1100m.
