Ellmau - September 2008
Some piccies from our trip to Ellmau (Austria).
We were planning on driving down to the Alps again this year for another Eurotrip, but I had been off work ill with a 'mystery' virus that knocked me for six prior to the departure date, so we decided to have a week away in a hotel instead. We had a very sunny week, except for one rainy day, in Ellmau at the Hockfilzer 4* hotel for half the normal price. We did 5 days of walking, I had a lazy last day & Stew went up'n'over'n'down the mountains for 7 hours on a mountain bike.
Ellmau sits in a valley between Wilder Kaiser & Hartkaiser mountains. It's part of the SkiWelt, Austria's largest linked ski area with over 250kms of runs. The other villages include; Going, Scheffau, Söll, Itter, Hopfgarten & Brixen, which surround the SkiWelt area. During the summer season only the main lifts from each village run to the top of the mountains. There are loads of different walks to choose from, you can go up, down, around, or a combination of all three.
