La Thuile - March 2009
Some piccies & a movie from La Thuile (Italy)
Me, Stew & our friend John went to La Thuile (pron. Tweel) in Italy. We stayed at the slope side Planibel complex, sharing a 4 berth apartment. It was John's first go at skiing, it turned out he liked it even more than we expected!
The first two days were snowy & windy, the remaining 4 were glorious sunshine, albeit rather windy. They'd had quite a bit of snow just before we arrived, so there was plenty of fresh powder to be had :-) It was a good season for snow this year, they'd got 1m at the bottom & 3m at the top when we were there.
La Thuile is a small Italian village with strong historic links to mining. It sits at the bottom of the Col du Petit St. Bernard pass, which links it with the French ski resort of La Rosière. The combined ski area is called Espace San Bernardo & has over 150Km of piste to explore. There's not much night life to be had, so if you want to dance the night away, this isn't the place for you. There aren't any lift queues & the slopes are fairly quiet (for a European resort), although it does get busier at weekends when the local Italians roll up.
