Lake Louise - April 2011

Some piccies & a movie from Lake Louise (Canada)

We got a last minute deal (as always) & stayed at the Lake Louise Inn. The accommodation wasn't as basic as expected, no problems with it at all & we would happily stay there again. The area is extremely quiet & there's not much there apart from a few restaurants/bars in the hotel itself & at the nearby small shopping precinct. But we found a restaurant/cafe in a hostel/hotel over the road called Bill Peyto's that served great food & drink at a much more reasonable price, so we went there most evenings.

The snow was still in great shape for April. A foot & a half fell the week before we got there, on Tuesday morning we woke to find another 2.5" had fallen. Canada & the USA had the best season in ages, as opposed to Europe that had a bad one. On the Wednesday we had a trip to Kicking Horse for the day, they still had a lot of powder there & we had a good time.

Lake Louise (1,645m) is in Alberta's Rockies. It's a large area for North America & has 1,100m vertical. It's renowned more for its scenery than its après-ski action. If you're minted you could stay at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel which sits on the shore of the frozen Lake Louise with the Victoria Glacier above it.
