Obergurgl - March 2006

Some piccies & a movie from Obergurgl (Austria)

Obergurgl is the highest parish in Austria at 1930m & as a result is a pretty snow-sure destination. It lies at the end of a valley so has no through traffic. It's not busy on the slopes, so there aren't any lift queues to speak of. It's linked to Hochgurgl, a village just down the valley, by a scenic gondola ride, so there are more slopes to have a go at.

We'd read about it & liked the sound of Obergurgl, but the high prices stopped us going. After a few seasons looking, Stew finally managed to find us a late deal there, so we booked it. We stayed at the Hotel Madeleine, as it's a four star hotel it was a bit posh for us, but we coped ;-) We got a five course evening meal every night (seven course one evening), Stew didn't know what to do with all the cutlery!! It was by far the best food we'd had whilst away on any holiday.

We got the bus down the valley & had a day in Sölden too. They've got two glaciers there & you get to ski through a tunnel at the top of the mountain to get to one of them.
