Panorama - March 2007

Some piccies & a movie from Panorama Mountain Village (Canada)

I decided to stay at home this time, but I let Stew go with his mate Mark (ski virgin). So I'll let him carry on the story........

Panorama is in British Columbia's Rockies. It's a purpose built resort, a few miles up the road from the lake-side town of Invermere. It's not very well known to the Brits, I think the long transfer from Calgary puts them off. The village is quite quiet too, not much nightlife at all. But the ski area is fairly large with something for everyone & it has one of the biggest verticals in North America.

We stayed at the Pine Inn, which truly was ski-in/ski-out, the lift was a matter of meters from the door. It was the first time I'd stayed slope side, I really enjoyed it :-)

We had one snowy day during the week, the rest were pretty hot & sunny. As a result, for the last couple of days, the snow adjacent to the Mile 1 Quad was very slushy by the afternoon. I just stayed above the first lift in the afternoons, it was like boarding in a giant slushy as you approached the village at the end of the day ;-)

Sitemap Mountain village Mark Wall learns how to put skis on - He's a bit embarrassed about the size of'em though! Lean forward & bend zee knees! All that skiing & boardin' gives you a bit of a thirst! Stew looks on in amazement as Mark lights up one of his legendary joints! The village gondola that saved you walking from the bottom to the top of the village Mark acquaints himself with some of the local Canadians By 8pm on the 3rd day it's all just too much for some people Mark approaches the base area (the Pine Inn, our hotel, is behind the lift) Panoramic view of the base area (1,160m) Stew & Mark on the naughty chair Looking back up towards the Taynton Bowl double black diamond area Looking towards the Champagne Express lift from the Cappuccino Hut On board the Summit Quad lift heading for the.......errrmmmm.......summit The Summit Hut (2,370m) Panoramic view from under the Champagne Express lift Stew & Mark on the piste.
